New UL 2020 compliant smoke detectors hitting the market.

The UL 2020 standards are creating smarter and safer smoke detectors. They can now distinguish between actual fires and false alarms such as burning food and steam. Expect more 2020 UL compliant products to be announced as the deadline approaches.

The life safety industry is in the midst of one of the biggest changes in its history due to new UL standards governing smoke detectors. Published in 2016, UL 268: Smoke Detectors for Fire Alarm Systems, Seventh Edition as well as UL 217: Standard for Smoke Alarms, Eighth Edition will take fire detection to advanced levels, resulting in faster detection with fewer nuisance alarms.

All UL-certified smoke detectors are required to meet the enhanced requirements by May 2020.
